SBG Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - The Efficient Art
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has been a huge part of the Straight Blast Gym (SBG) curriculum from day one.
Not only does this amazing art serve as the base for all the groundfighting that is trained within SBG, it also serves as a living reminder,
a moving, breathing example of what fully 'Alive' Arts look, feel, act, and perform like.
SBG Has A Unique Perspective On BJJ The SBG has a unique take on BJJ. Each BJJ class taught at an SBGi Gym is 100% Alive, with progressive resistance, making each training session FUN and challenging. That means the Coaches use the "I" method of teaching, and allow each individual athlete the freedom needed to develop his, or her own game to it's highest levels of performance. | ![]() |

"I have been training off and on with Coach Rich for over the last 19 years now. During those 19 years whenever I was not at the gym it was due to life obligations that I had to put first. That being said, every single minute I have been with Coach Rich at SBG, it has always been a time of personal growth on many levels.
Throughout my life I have been fortunate to have been exposed to many high level coaches in many different sports (head coach of Canada, Division 1 coaches, NHL coaches), and I have always considered Coach Rich to be amongst the the top with these elite coaches. I have always thought of Coach Rich not only as my MMA coach, but as a life Coach as well.
My idea of what makes a coach great is they should have the ability to motivate, and inspire their athletes. They should know all of their pupils, and be able to assist them in achieving their goals. Above all a great coach should be able to inspire all their pupils to be better human beings of the mats, or pitch, or ice or whatever activity they are in.
Coach Rich is all this, and so much more. SBGi is lucky to have him apart of their organization. Even more fortunate are all the students he has had a direct impact on over the years, especially myself.
I love my time on the mats, i love my time at SBGi, above all I love my time with Coach Rich. "
